Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000: Everything you want to know

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 graphics cards, such as RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, are expected to be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which will take place from January 7 to 11 and, although there are no leaks of specific functionality and specifications yet. Scarce, there is still a lot of reliable data about the products that will update the RTX 4000 and 4000 Super series. Here’s what we know so far.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 series has not been officially announced, but specifications have been leaked through partner card brands as well as regular and reputable leakers. All RTX 5000 cards will support PCIe 5. 0 and use GDDR7 VRAM, but capacity is still a hot topic and here the RTX 5090 increases from 8GB to 32GB to the 24GB of the RTX 4090, however, the RTX 5080 remains the same with 16 GB, the same as RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 Super.

The RTX 5070 Ti will retain the same 16GB as the RTX four070 Ti Super, but that’s four GB more than the four070 Ti and four070. The RTX 5070 will come with 12GB, the same as the RTX four070, while the RTX 5060 Ti offers the same 16GB and 8GB features as the RTX four060 Ti. On the back of the stack, the RTX 5060 keeps the same 8GB as the RTX four060, which has led to some complaints given that some existing games use more. We’ll have to wait and see what the final specs are.

Very little information has been revealed on the pricing of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 series, but what has been rumored and discussed so far may be an indicator of a nasty surprise. Some websites reported pricing for the RTX 5090 to be between $2,000 and $2,500, the RTX 5080 from $1,200 to $1,500 and the RTX 5070 from $599 to $700. These are all significant increases over their predecessors and the fact that AMD has stated it will not be competing with Nvidia’s top-end cards may be the reason for this. These figures are only rumors, but this is perhaps going to be the most keenly-awaited bit of news in January.

Several images have leaked showing a huge PCB and GPU die with the latter measuring 744mm2 compared to 608mm2 for RTX 4000 GPUs – a significant increase.

This could be the RTX 5090 PCB

However, several technology commentators have expressed considerations about the physical length of the PCB and the resulting graphics card, adding the heatsink, and whether compatibility with existing instances could be affected, especially on the small form factor/mini-ITX side.

It’s already a challenge to have support for trendy giant graphics cards in some cases, but if the RTX 5000Array. . [+] series is particularly giant, this can pose problems, especially with systems with small frame rates. shape.

The width of the card seems to be the main point of concern, which would definitely impact compatibility, especially as the power connector has also been on the side, further adding to the clearance needed.

The 16-pin 12VPWR connector has been in the news a lot since its appearance and never for clever reasons. This time, it is a double challenge since a few months ago rumors abounded that the RTX 5090 still did not have a two to handle. its predicted power consumption of six hundred W.

Nvidia RTX 4000 GPUs use the 12VPWR 16-pin connector and this seems to be all you’ll need to power … [+] any RTX 5000 card too

However, more recent information contradicts those rumors, with Videocardz reporting on a comment from Chinese PSU manufacturer Segotep, who stated the RTX 5090 would not use dual power connectors and seemed to imply a standard 600W 12VPWR connector would suffice.

The naming scheme will remain the same and six models will be released, we have no express timelines and going forward Nvidia had a wide window of availability with several months between the initial launch and the release of the final models. In fact, this was the case with the RTX 4060, which will be available several months after the arrival of the RTX 4090 in October 2022.

Based on this time frame, with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 announced in January 2025, complaints about the first wave of releases that will likely come with the RTX 5090 (or RTX 5080) will remain last January or early February with availability of approximately the same time. With the RTX 4080, it remained a month later, so if that is the case with the RTX 5080, it would be February/March and vice versa based on the previous release schedule, a month after the RTX 5070 Ti, followed by the RTX 5070 , RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 in mid-2025.
