NSF invests in quantum science institutes to meet network challenges

The National Science Foundation has supported the creation of 3 institutes for studies and progression in quantum data science, Fedscoop reported Friday.

Denise Caldwell, director of NSF’s physical division, told reporters that the Quantum Leap Challenge Institutes would respond to the need for a network that reliably facilitates communication between quantum computers.

NSF has invested $75 million in university-led institutes, established in July, that will address demanding situations in high-fidelity networked painting and quantum detection spaces. Institutes will also work to help the government build quantum technology.
