A National Reconnaissance Office project supporting the NRO’s proliferated satellite architecture lifted off Wednesday aboard SpaceX’s Falcon Nine rocket from a launch complex at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
The NROL-146 project marks the first release of the NRO’s proliferated operating systems “with responsive knowledge collection and delivery,” the firm said Wednesday.
“The NROL-146 project presented reflects the NRO’s commitment to generating innovative, faster, and more resilient technologies and delivering greater functionality to our IC, DoD, and allied partners,” said Chris Scolese, NRO Director and four-time Wash100. winner.
“These systems provide key data that can be received from an area perspective,” Scolese added.
NRO said about six releases of the agency’s proliferated architecture are planned for 2024 and that it expects more releases to take place through 2028.
