In a letter received through The Associated Press, New York Transit Agency MTA encouraged Apple to push for the deployment of additional user-friendly technology responses to the global fitness crisis.

MTA President Patrick Foye said it has been noticed that cyclists cut their mask to unlock their iPhones Face ID, despite a recent update to Apple’s software that makes it less difficult for masked users to enter their password.

“We perceive that Apple is running to solve the challenge and we know that Apple has a variety of technologies at its disposal as a global leader among generation companies,” Foye wrote in the letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook. “We urge Apple to drive the deployment of new technologies and respond to those additional consumers in the COVID-19 era.”

Foye said the MTA would be willing to work with Apple to announce a recent update on iOS 13.5 that allows a hidden user to swipe up on the screen to promptly demonstrate the code interface by unlocking their iPhone. This could discourage others from briefly opening their face ID mask, which he doesn’t paint with a mask.

The report notes that the MTA lost more than 90% of its passenger number on the subway at the peak of the closure of COVID-19 in the New York area. The number of passengers is said to have increased slowly, but remains at levels long before the pandemic.
