Athena, a coalition representing Amazon workers, said Smalls’ dismissal in retaliation for reporting situations in the warehouse and for his role in organizing the strike.
The strikes took place at several warehouses across the country on Monday. Employees protested what they said were dangerous situations like the coronavirus pandemic.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a news convention Tuesday that the city’s human rights commission is investigating the allegations. If the accusations are true, the mayor said, “it would be a violation of our city’s human rights laws and we would act accordingly immediately.”
An Amazon spokeswoman said the allegations were unfounded.
“We rescind mr. Smalls’ job of organizing a 15-person demonstration,” spokeswoman Kristen Kish said in a statement. “We terminate your employment by jeopardizing the fitness and protection of others and by violating their terms of employment.”

De Blasio criticized the history of Amazon’s paintings and criticized the company’s control over the campus plan.
