A new whisky distiller has selected Glenrothes as the headquarters of its bottling plant and warehouse.
A proposal has been submitted to fife City Council to build 4 whisky maturation warehouses as a bottling plant, offices and garage.
If approved, the progression will fill a vacancy on Crompton Road in Southfield’s industrial area and bring nine jobs to the city.
The company of the plans, Scotch Whisky Investments, which was formed in 2021, sees Glenrothes as an ideal location for the company, which intends to distribute bottled whisky in the UK and internationally.
Initial plans are to build two warehouses, a bottling operation, offices and a parking lot in the first phase, with two more garage depots shortly thereafter.
A metal fence would surround the site to store up to 4,000 cubic tons of whiskey in barrels before bottling.
The company’s long-term aspiration is to grow the logo over the next 10 to 15 years and has developed additional plans for slow expansion into other terrain around the site.
Planning Officer Neil Gray of Gray Planning and Development, the proposal is exciting for Glenrothes.
He said: “My consumer sees Glenrothes as the ideal location for the company due to the shipping links to Scotland’s central belt and beyond.
“There is also a workforce available in the domain and long-term features for business expansion. “
He added: “The initial accommodation of 4,000 cubic tonnes of whisky in barrels is small but will allow the company to identify itself.
“The purpose is to grow the logo and see further expansion of capacity and operations at Glenrothes.
“Also, if approved, the prospect of a new venture in Southfields is good news for Fife Council, which has been marketing for more than 10 years without success. “
A design that accompanied the app defined plans for 12 more warehouses during a phased expansion.
The proposal is expected to be submitted to the Fife Council for resolution in the coming months and Mr Gray said the candidate was looking to get started.
“If approved, my consumer must be identified until the end of 2022, after the final touch of the initial structure phase,” Mr. Gray said.
