New Video Game Movies and TV Shows on the Way: Release Dates in 2025 and Beyond

It remains to be seen how many of them will progress and see the light of day, and only a fraction of them have actual release dates. But we monitor those projects and fulfill them!

They don’t need to be faithful adaptations, they simply need to be based on a real game.

Video game adaptations are only smart when the managers and production don’t stray too far from the original theme and the casting is done correctly.

way too many video games being turned into movies and tv shows imo. nostalgia watchers do make up a decent sized demographic but all it takes is a flood of these type of movies and i predict the trend will wear off quickly as hollywood slices and dices great video games like borderlands throwing in people like kevin heart who just dont fit into the actually story well. not many hollywood people can fit in well. we will need new faces and new actors to pull off successful movies or tv shows.

When is American Truck Simulator released?

There hasn’t been a truck movie since Over the Top

I think the Mario movie will be solid and I have relatively high hopes for TLOU. Everything else though? It’s all either wait and see (Fallout, God of War), or I expect failure (Halo season 2).

I would say that of all the houses indexed here, Bioshock would hypothetically be the one that would have excited me the most, especially years ago when they were talking about a movie. But a live action edition made through Netflix? I hope it’s low. I wish they had followed Bioshock’s animation direction, as Netflix has made some pretty solid video game-like animation projects. Instead, I hope it’s like The Witcher, so I’m excited to see him killed off.

This may sound stupid (something I’m an expert on), but I noticed that they stopped looking to make video game videos that imitated video games and took the themes and concepts and turned them into undeniable movies (or TV shows).

I feel like some of them will never see the light of day, but I’m still excited.

Pretty sure a lot of the top listed projects have been cancelled.

a well-done Bioshock action can easily be the movie of the year or whatever the corresponding value is.

A Portal movie in the same vein as Cube could be just great. Unfortunately, it turns out the director of Bioshock needs to do it like this: sci-fi with social commentary, no society, usually just a guy walking around. Why not show the fall of Rapture society? That’s the whole point of the game.

I hope that Mass Effect, in its current form, never makes it to the screen. He’s too smart and too much for a guy whose big credits are Kin and Fast and Furious 23 to help him.

The prestige of God of War has been in doubt since the showrunners of Expanse abandoned ship. It’s sad, because those guys know how to expand characters and their action is top-notch.

Horizon could be really good with better-developed characters. Control could be just the freaky mix of X-Files and Twin Peaks that the world needs right now, with a strong enough adaptation.

We’ll Legend ot Zelda is Nintendo’s most suitable franchise for a live-action adaptation, as Metroid doesn’t have the sales or popularity of a film adaptation and Nintendo’s other active franchises are more child-oriented.

Cool to see Firewatch on the list, that game had an incredibly heartfelt story.

Some of them I had no idea about and they seem potentially amazing. The only two considerations I have are that, first, many are animated and, second, many films want to be shown to tell their stories. I just don’t know how you can condense things like Death Stranding or Ghosts of Tsushima into a few hours of film.

I’m horrified that Zelda is disappointing. You can’t fit a game like Zelda into that amount of time. If they had said it would be a trilogy, maybe I would be optimistic. I like who’s involved, but this is by far the most important video game adaptation ever made. As far as I’m concerned, at least the taste and touch of Denis Villeneuve was needed. It’s not the maze runner, no offense, but of course, it’s too vital.

We know that there are a lot of video games that you can turn into movies, but it’s an incredible amount that lately is in progression and/or probably is in progression. It’s great to see some PS2 classics like Beyond Good.
