New Transgrid Portal to Boost Telecom Colocation Applications

In a bid to boost telecom colocation applications, Transgrid Group has announced a world-first technology, which is expected to reach consumer facilities across Australia.

A site discovery portal developed through Lumea, Transgrid’s arguable business, will allow wireless network planners to update knowledge on tens of thousands of remote towers on the Transgrid Group’s network in New South Wales and ACT.

The portal can be used to remotely assess the suitability of sites to jointly locate wireless and cellular devices on existing communication and power transmission towers.

Lumea Chief Executive Officer Craig Stallan said innovation is at the heart of what Lumea does every day, helping to enable Australia’s energy transition as it builds infrastructure to be supported in the long term and beyond.

“We’ve listened to visitor requests and I’m excited to be able to help the telecommunications industry with this generation that will reduce prices and lead times and allow communities to reap the benefits of network upgrades more quickly,” said Mr. Stallan.

“It’s about offering a fashion to co-locate and streamline the procedure so that consumers can look for smarter and better frames. “

Lumea has lately more than 130 communication towers and Transgrid Group has 37,000 high voltage towers in New South Wales and ACT that can be used for the co-location of wireless and cellular equipment.

Mobile network and Internet of Things (IoT) emergency services use those towers for their network equipment.

Susan Huggett, Lumea’s managing director of telecommunications, said the site discovery portal allows planners to have tens of thousands of remote sites at their fingertips without having to leave their desks.

“The portal provides up-to-date information so they can see a site as it recently appears, helping to reduce allocation costs and timelines, meaning they can reach milestones in days rather than months. It’s a game changer,” Huggett said.

“In the past, the procedure of locating suitable towers to co-locate telecommunications equipment, assessing the site and sending programs required a team to travel to remote locations, but now all of this can be done remotely. ”

Users can compare potential sites on the portal and visualize the structural effects of the proposed apparatus on the towers. This data can then be used to submit a request within the portal for an area in a tower.

“Achieving true speed to market is a first step forward. It will replace the way we do business, not just for Lumea but for the entire industry, because it’s something that’s never been done before.

Generation also makes the process safer by eliminating the need for other people to go to remote locations for the duration of the project.

“As a component of this solution, Lumea’s towers will be scanned by drones so that we can verify the condition of the towers and the accuracy of the device’s installation. This has benefits in terms of maintenance, quality of knowledge, and profit guarantee.

“The advantages of this portal will benefit communities, as it will allow more high-voltage transmission towers to be used for telecommunications coverage, especially in regional areas.

“From radio antennas for police officers and volunteer rural firefighters to faster knowledge about things like telehealth and how to eliminate cell phone pain points, this generation will make a positive and lasting difference.
