New Microsoft Xbox Adaptive Joystick

Gamescom has already released new trailers and gameplay reveals, but for some players, the big draw is a new Xbox adaptive joystick. Microsoft’s new controller is designed to help gamers with limited mobility return to the world of gaming.

Via the official Xbox website, the Xbox Adaptive Joystick is a simplified edition of the popular Xbox controller that features four popular buttons, plus two other buttons that take care of the bumper and activate the controls. However, the controller is really customizable to suit each player’s desires. Microsoft has already designed several other controllers that can be published in 3D and inserted into the Xbox Adaptive Joystick. At least one of the features allows players to use their chin to control movement if their hands are unable to do so.

During the Gamescom livestream, via The Verge, Xbox’s Kaitlyn Jones explained that gamers with disabilities were concerned about trying out early versions of the adaptive joystick. Her input helped shape the final design and value of the controller. Additionally, Microsoft revealed 8BitDo’s Lite SE controller, offering disabled gamers even more features.

The Xbox Adaptive Joystick will cost $30 and will launch early next year. The 8BitDo Lite SE controller is available now on Amazon for $60. There’s also a separate Xbox Adaptive Controller, which has lately been available at Best Buy.
