New Louisville TV seeks justice for Breonna Taylor

In raw text on a typewriter, a new Louisville television ad telling Kentucky Attorney General and the city mayor to arrest the agents who killed her today will run until August 2020.

Activists who called for the arrest of the three officials involved in the murder of Breonna Taylor on March 13 came time to explain it. A new Louisville television ad submits requests to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (who is black) and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer (who is white). It just says, “Fire. High. Load. The cops who killed her. Today.” Released on Wednesday, July 29 and tweeted through UltraViolet, it was produced through a collaboration between UltraViolet, Color of Change and Black Lives Matter Louisville.

Taylor, 26, was shot dead by police while sleeping at his home in Louisville. The announcement, which will air in early August at fox, ABC, NBC and CBS subsidiaries throughout the city, features a typewriter with a message to the attorney general and mayor who also urges them to #SayHerName, as well as indictment agents Brett Hankison, Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, all of whom are reassigned pending the final results of the ongoing investigation.

In an e-mail statement, the worker expressed his exasperation with the state’s most sensible lawyer and mayor, but also promised not to fight more sensibly:

Chanelle Helm, BLM Louisville organizer:

What we’re witnessing is why there’s #SayHerName and how the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department and the city of Louisville move as usual. It is obvious, since 13 March, that in this case there is no real objective of justice through the workplace of the mayor or the LMPD. What we’re seeing now is why black women are forgotten when they’re killed across the state. Breonna deserves more than that. Breonna’s circle of relatives deserves to be closed. The city of Breonna deserves justice. We will not prevent Breonna and other members of the network from being brought into the hands of law enforcement until Justice Is Done.

Scott Roberts, Senior Director of Criminal Justice Campaigns at Color Of Change:

It’s been almost 150 days since Breonna Taylor was murdered and we haven’t heard justice yet. In the four months since his death, officials have dealt with the case aimlessly while the three guilty officials continue to roam the streets without any responsibility. As Louisvillens and protesters across the country call for an end to racist police violence, officials Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove and former officer Brett Hankison must be arrested and charged with Breonna’s death.

Shaunna Thomas, Executive Director of UltraViolet:

Breonna Taylor murdered and the three Louisville Metropolitan Police officers who killed her in her sleep have not yet been qualified. Two of them remain WORKERs in the LMPD. Breonna was an indispensable member of the Louisville community, a must-have, and her life mattered. We urge AG Cameron and Mayor Fisher to fire the other two officials without delay; we also urge you to arrest, qualify and revoke the pensions of Brett Hankison, Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove. We helped make this announcement a show of solidarity with Breonna’s family, friends and black Lives Matter Louisville activists, who have consistently called for justice for her death. We will not prevent until the LMPD reports on these horrific and racist acts.

At the end of the announcement, the public is encouraged to point out the request #JusticeForBre to call the action. Learn more about the Fight for Breonna Crusade here.
