Devastation as a 20-year-old care diagnosed with terminal cancer
Sunderland Jade Shovlin dies at 21
Plans to take homes, a combination of bungalows and two, three and four bedroom homes, to the former Southwick Elementary School in the city have been approved through Sunderland City Hall.
The progression of several million pounds is made through the Bernicia Housing Association, and the allocation investment comes from Homes England.
The houses will be for rent and in condominiums.
Michael Farr, Executive Director of Assets and Growth at Bernicia, said: “Our purpose is to provide quality, well-designed new housing that local citizens want and deserve at rental and acquisition prices they can afford.
“We know it is a vital position in Southwick with genuine importance to the local community. And there is a strong call from the local population to build high-quality houses there.”
“Our homes will be ideal for a variety of others to hire or buy, adding young families, older people to reduce their size, and first-time buyers looking to climb the asset scale.
Work is expected to begin at Northern Way homes in September.
A youth and parent survey at the existing Southwick Elementary School revealed that Alice Gardens was the most popular call for the new home assignment among three suggestions, encouraged through the city’s ties to Lewis Carroll.
The proposal will be submitted to the Board for approval in due course.
Councilwoman Rebecca Atkinson, a cabinet member of the Dynamic City City Council, added: “I am very happy to see this progression continue, paving the way for rental housing in Southwick.
“This complements the paintings that the City Council is making in partnership with local housing providers such as Bernicia to build and boost the source of housing and support in the city to satisfy the wishes of our communities.
Bernicia also delivers books to the number one school library as a thank you for families’ contribution to the program’s call.
