TOKYO, January 28, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–NEC Corporation (NEC; TYO: 6701) today announced the progression of the generation that doubles the power of autonomous cellular robots (AMRs) in warehouses while maintaining a superior point of safety. NEC plans to implement this generation until March 2024 and install it in NEC’s cooperative AMRs in Japan.

In recent years, the arrival of robots for shipping fabrics has accelerated due to the scarcity of hard work and giant warehouses. However, even when robots were introduced to automate shipping work, it was mandatory to slow down to ensure safety and getting better shipping power has become a challenge. Since it was mandatory to build passages and spaces for cellular robots to increase speed and ensure safety, it was difficult to introduce robots into existing warehouses.
However, NEC has developed a “risk-sensitive stochastic generation” (*) that can be autonomous in cellular robots and meet protection requirements. This was completed by employing models that can explain dubious points that vary from site to site, such as sensor measurement errors and differences. between simulation effects and movements of real robots. In addition, this new generation has followed strategies that have been used in actuarial finance.
As a result, robots can autonomously determine when to move at maximum speed and over the shortest distances, such as when moving in low-risk locations without painters, elements on the ground, or other obstacles. On the contrary, robots will move at low speeds. when they take routes, we decide to be high-risk places. By comparing the shipping boxes between a robot applying this generation and a traditional robot, it was shown that the execution time was halved and that the power of the movement can be only doubled while ensuring protection. In addition, protection and power can be achieved without compromised robotic zones, making it easy to install in existing warehouses.
In the future, NEC will continue to expand those technologies with on-site demonstration experiments, with the goal of their early installation in autonomous cellular robots for a wide diversity of industries.
