NASA’s Roman Nancy Grace Space Telescope, a next-generation observatory meant to shed light on the cosmic puzzles of dark power and dark matter, has finished its progression engineering after passing a critical design review.
According to Julie McEnergy, lead scientist on the Roman Space Telescope project, the team will move on to construction and the observatory after completing preparatory work, NASA announced Wednesday.
The next phase will come with the assembly and testing of the flight apparatus until 2024 and after which, the team from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center will review the integration of the formula and merge the Roman Observatory.
“Eventually, we will place the entire observatory in environments that simulate the release and our orbit to make sure Roman will work as intended,” said Jackie Townsend, deputy director of allocation for the Roman Space Telescope.
The firm said astronomers are looking for Roman to navigate the vast Array, explore the infrared universe and reveal rocky worlds in and beyond regions that have liquid water.
NASA plans to launch the project no later than May 2027.
