Naked man, sprinklers, chimney alarms and power outages mark a number one in Leon County

Tuesday’s first choice for books, or maybe fun pages.

A man wearing a mask and nothing else appeared at the Faith Christian Family Center on Laura Lee Avenue, not North Florida Fairgrounds, election supervisor Mark Earley said.

“He didn’t come to vote, but he briefly greeted the voters,” Earley said.

Voting officials called the police and the guy ran away.

“The last time I knew you were looking for him, ” said Earley.”Apart from a few head movements and laughter, no voter bothered there.”

Meanwhile, a harsh typhoon formula moved around town, activated sprinklers and chimney alarm at Tucker Civic Center, and erected and collapsed an outdoor tent at the voting site on Apalachee Parkway.

“Voters walked in the rain and we ballots all the time,” Earley said.

Election officials had to evacuate the civic center voting room for a while, but settled outdoors under a ledge. They dismantled the open-air tent from the polling place on the boardwalk, but repositioned right in front of the front door.

Storms also cut forces at five polling stations, temporarily returning from backup batteries and generators.

“It was a choice not to forget, ” said Earley.”In my 34 years (in the election), it’s up to the task.”
