Nadler scolds Judiciary Republicans who played video of violent riots during Barr hearing

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler chided Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, the ranking GOP member on the committee, after he played a video filled with clips of violence directed toward law enforcement.

After the video played for several minutes during Tuesday’s hearing with Attorney General William Barr, Nadler said the Republican minority on the panel failed to provide advance notice.

“Well, I hope that Mr. Jordan will never complain about the length of my opening statement,” Nadler said upon the video’s conclusion, which aired during Jordan’s opening remarks.

“Without objection, I’m going to insert the committee’s audio-visual policy into the record of this hearing and note that the minority did not give the 48-hour notice required by that policy,” the New York Democrat added.

The video contained clips of violent protesters throwing debris at officers, setting vehicles and buildings ablaze, and toppling statues of historical figures. Barr, who appeared Tuesday for an oversight hearing, faced scrutiny for the use of force by federal law enforcement officials responding to unrest in cities across the country.
