MSI’s New Steam Deck Challenger Launches This Year With Impressive Hardware And A Terrible Name

A new challenger has entered the competitive computer gaming space, as MSI throws its way into the ring. Or to be more precise, its Claw. The MSI Claw was unveiled at CES 2024 this week, and on paper, it can be a serious contender. to Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally.

The main selling point of the MSI Claw is that it uses the new Intel Core Ultra processor and packs an impressive 53 Wh battery inside its frame, larger than the 40 Wh battery of the ROG Ally or the 50 Wh edition found inside the Steam Deck OLED. For the display, a seven-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, Intel Arc graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and an M2 NVMe SSD.

MSI claims that the device has a battery life of two hours on a full workload and that users can expect sleek gameplay with a 1080p solution and medium settings. Like the ROG Ally, the MSI Claw uses a Windows 11 operating system, so you’ll be able to load games from multiple stores like Steam, the Xbox app for PC, the Epic Games Store, and more. Interestingly, MSI says that its APP Player will also allow you to run Android games on the handheld, expanding your options.

Aesthetically, it’s similar to the design of the ROG Ally with the placement of the analog sticks, face buttons, and its overall shape, although MSI added that it designed the device to be ergonomically more comfortable for long gaming sessions. Like its competitors, the MSI Claw may not be reasonable as it starts at $699 and is scheduled to launch in the early part of 2024.

On the more classic PC gaming side, CES 2024 unveiled Nvidia’s new RTX 40 GPUs and the rugged new Razer Blade gaming laptops for 2024.
