Mozilla extends Firefox seeks deal with Google

Mozilla Corporation announced this week that it cut 250 jobs as a component of a reorganization that he said had accelerated due to the coronavirus crisis.

Most of Mozilla’s profits come from search agreements like the one it has established with Google, which considers Google as the default search engine for Firefox in the United States and other jurisdictions. However, the agreement signed with Google in 2017 will expire later this year, raising new considerations about Mozilla’s future.

A Mozilla spokesperson showed me overnight that Mozilla had reached a new agreement with Google. “We have recently extended the partnership and the dates are changing,” the spokesman said in a written statement.

It is transparent if the new agreement is on the same terms as the previous agreement, however, the news of the extension will be a relief for the remaining Mozilla workers and Firefox browser enthusiasts.

The decline in the popularity of Firefox as a browser had raised fears that Google would not rate it as an extension of the search agreement.

The market share of Firefox on desktop computers is 7.8%, according to NetMarketShare, almost 4% less since the last agreement signed with Google in 2017. Firefox’s cellular edition, meanwhile, is a fish, with less than 1% of the global market place. .

Mozilla chief executive Mitchell Baker said this week that the company will have to continue expanding paid products, arguing that “the old style where everything was loose has consequences.”
