MIT develops an underwater camera without battery

Sept. 26 (UPI) — Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said Monday they have developed a prototype battery-free camera for underwater use, which they say can monitor the effects of climate change.

“For me, one of the most exciting programs of this camera is in the context of climate monitoring,” Fadel Abid, an associate professor at MIT, said in a statement. “We are construction weather models, but we lack knowledge about more than 95 percent of the ocean. “

The researchers published their findings on underwater camera generation in the journal Nature Communications on Monday.

The researchers tested the underwater camera for color photographs, photographs that are also transmitted through sound waves and in dark environments. MIT scientists have in the past tested the camera’s main generation, called underwater backscatter localization, in an underwater navigation system.
