MINISFORUM UM8nine0 WE is a water-cooled mini PC with Ryzen nine 8nine45HS

Mini PC manufacturer MINISFORUM has unveiled its first water-cooled computer. . . for some reason. The MINISFORUM AtomMan UM890 WE is a complex cooling formula that combines a heat sink, 120mm fan, and liquid cooling to keep hardware running at optimal temperatures.

What’s a little confusing is why you’d want so much cooling power. The formula is powered by an AMD Ryzen nine 8nine45HS processor. It’s a pretty rugged chip, but it’s designed for laptops and probably wouldn’t overheat if you turned off the water. bomb.

That said, there could be another explanation for the cooling: according to Portaltele, the UM890 WE not only helps maintain temperatures at 75 degrees Celsius or below, but it also helps keep noise degrees below 40 dB, so perhaps liquid cooling is meant to keep fan noise down.

The PC has a frame measuring 175 x 155 x 132 mm (6. 9″ x 6. 1″ x 5. 2″) and an internal volume of 3. 5 liters, making it giant by MINISFORUM’s mini PC standards, but still quite small for a desktop computer, especially a liquid-cooled one.

Other features include up to 64GB of dual-channel DDR5-5600 memory and two M. 2 2280 slots for SSD storage. While there’s no internal discrete GPU in the chassis, the Ryzen nine 8nine45HS has a built-in Radeon 780M graphics card with 12 RDNAs. 3 graphics cores, and the PC can also have external graphics docking stations, thanks to a set of ports that come with:

There’s an M. 2230 slot occupied via a wireless card that supports WiFI 6E and Bluetooth 5. 3.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but MINISFORUM is expected to begin accepting pre-orders for the UM890 WE on May 20, 2024.

@liliputing_Is this an April Fool’s Day joke? ?

Noise levels are important, but on a discrete GPU, the amount of noise this would generate is limited anyway, and with an external GPU dock, most of the noise will come from there.

I think water cooling was basically due to noise levels at the time, so that’s most likely an explanation.
