Microsoft’s game streaming box is turned on (for now)

Microsoft announced last year that it would release a variety of “streaming sticks” that you can also connect to a TV to stream games over the web through the company’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service. But it looks like it may have to wait. a while before you get your hands on one.

According to a report from Windows Central, Microsoft has been developing game streaming hardware for a few years, but the company has to “move away from the existing iteration” and “refocus our efforts on a new technique that will allow us to deliver Xbox. “Cloud Gaming to more players from all over the world in the future.

Windows Central’s conclusion from this is that Microsoft would possibly have scrapped its existing hardware, but we’ll still see Microsoft’s game streaming hardware.

I’m not quite sure if that’s the message I’m getting, as it’s equally believable that Microsoft doesn’t want to create its own cheap game streaming box when there are already so many other smart TV options, adding Amazon’s. platforms, Apple, Google, Roku, Samsung and others.

While, in theory, a device made through Microsoft may have some benefits if it was designed in particular for game streaming (allowing the company to focus on things like wireless controller latency, for example), it turns out that it would be much less difficult to succeed. in a wider user base through creating apps for existing smart TV platforms that try to convince other people that they don’t. you don’t need to shell out cash on an Xbox or gaming PC to spend cash on a new media streamer when you probably already have a smart TV of some sort.

Liliputing’s main profit resources are advertising and associated links (if you click the “Buy” button on the most sensitive part of the page and buy anything on Amazon, for example, we will get a small commission).

But there are several tactics to run the site, even if you use an ad blocker* and hate online shopping.
