Microsoft to Separate Teams and Office Globally

Starting April 1, U. S. tech company Microsoft has shown that it will sell its Office and Teams products globally.

The move comes amid a European Commission investigation into the company following a complaint filed in 2020 through the Salesforce-owned messaging app Slack.

Microsoft’s latest move appears to be an attempt to deal with EU antitrust fines. The company’s competitors argued that the combination of the two programs gives it unfair merit in the marketplace.

It should be noted that since October 1 last year, the company has already started promoting Teams and Office in the EU and Switzerland. This decision will now be extended to the whole world.

“Last year, Microsoft updated the way Microsoft 365, Office 365, and Teams were authorized in the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. We are now announcing our goal to expand this technology globally,” the company said in a blog post. on April 1.

“Globally consistent licensing helps ensure some clarity for consumers and streamlines decision-making and negotiations. To that end, we’re now updating how Microsoft 365, Office 365, and Teams are authorized outside of Europe, in line with recent changes in the EEA. Starting today, we’re introducing 1) a new diversity of Microsoft 365 and Office 365 enterprise suites that don’t come with Teams in regions outside the EEA and Switzerland, and 2) a new standalone Teams that offers services to enterprise consumers. in the regions of some.

Microsoft added that, as is the case in the EEA and Switzerland, consumers with existing subscriptions that come with Microsoft Teams will be able to continue using the plans they’ve already chosen.

Guests already subscribed to one of their suites can continue to use, renew, upgrade, and upgrade seats to their existing packages as usual. If they upgrade to the new range, they can do so on the anniversary or at their contract renewal.

New net subscribers to the Office/Microsoft 365 Enterprise suite outside the EEA and Switzerland who wish to offer Teams to their end users will need to purchase two SKUs: a Microsoft 365 suite (without groups) or Office 365 (without groups) and Microsoft Teams for Business.
