Microsoft Surface Duo is an open book.
The device brings new concepts to the cellular world, adding the software that Microsoft has written to make the two screens interact. You can drag a photo from one screen to another and it works with a combination of PC programming that tracks your finger on screens. There is also a variety of sensors that track the location of the screens relative to others, adding whether they are open, closed or somewhere in between.
While CNET editor Scott Stein, a famous dual-screen skeptic, says the device felt smart in his hands, says $1399 is a lot of cash to ask other people for a day in general, amid a coronavirus-driven economic recession. Pandemic.
However, Microsoft invited us to talk to its engineers about how Surface Duo was designed, the generation invented to make it imaginable, and how it will work when we get it by mail (watch out for the CNET review in the coming weeks).

Microsoft has closed almost all of its retail physical stores, so you may not be able to locate them there, even if you’re in a position to venture out of the pandemic. It will be sold online through the Microsoft website. You can also buy it at AT-T and Best Buy.

We had to take a look inside the Surface Duo, under the screens, to see how it works.
Microsoft is willing to show us that popular Android apps work great on your device, thanks to its two screens equivalent to two popular phone screens. For apps designed with the current screen in mind, they can be designed to “extend” on any of the screens, meaning that a messaging app can have your inbox on the left and messages open on the right. They can also be programmed to open new links or related apps on the opposite screen you’re looking for.
Microsoft brought Amazon’s Kindle eBook reading app, designed to look like an eBook with text from left to right. When you swipe across the screen, an animated page appears.
The company said it runs with Google to integrate some of the software it developed for Surface Duo on Android, so that other long-term two-screen devices gain advantages from Microsoft’s work. It also means that you can eventually schedule more apps for Surface Duo.
We check some folding devices in CNET using a special robot developed through SquareTrade. The Samsung Galaxy Fold began to fail after last year approximately 120,000 doubled our check. That was much less than the 200,000 times we estimated it would be used for five years. (Although we are just beginning to be informed about how other people use folding phones and that this can be replaced with the other models that corporations invent).)
When we put the new Motorla Razr tested for FoldBot last year, it was unsuccessful 28,000 times.
Microsoft has preemptively stated that folding check robots do not simulate actual use in the same way as their own labs. Still, that doesn’t say how many folds Surface Duo can last, which the company expects the hinge mechanism to last beyond surface Duo’s herbal lifecycle.
Surface Duo displays are thinner than an iPad Air.
Many corporations that launch high-end phones justify their costs of $1,000 or more with the beautiful photos they say they can take. Apple has this cross of Shot on iPhone billboards and the iPhone Photography Awards. Samsung boasts how your devices can provide amazing zoom with your cameras. And Google proudly says that its complex programming allows it to take photos on its Pixel phones, unlike its competitors, by providing incredibly well-captured low-light shots. They can even photograph stars in the sky.
By comparison, Microsoft has focused on how Surface Duo is designed for productivity and greater interaction between applications. Translation: Your camera will be a fatal feature.

One of the most annoying parts of having a phone with Google’s Android software is Android itself. Manufacturers do not provide timely updates to users, even though Google releases verification versions of its software months before the typical fall release.
Microsoft says it works with Google directly on Surface Duo, which naturally led to the question of whether that means it will be up to date faster and faster. Microsoft says the device will get software updates, but has not committed to meeting schedules.
