Microsoft Shows How AI Is Said to Be “Accurate” and How Players Can Understand What to Build in Minecraft

At Microsoft’s Surface and AI event, the company showed off the future range of Windows, Surface AI PCs, and new Microsoft Copilot AI features. They did, of course, through the modern medium Minecraft Let’s Play.

While you can’t watch any streams of the show itself, you can watch a small clip posted via a player on Twitter, showing a snippet of the Minecraft and Copilot demo. It’s only 20 seconds long, but it shows the Copilot software explaining to a player how to craft a sword, discussing what parts they’d want, and how to use it.

“You’re going to want some equipment,” Copilot explains in the presentation. “Can you open your inventory? Just press E on your keyboard. “After the player asks if he has what it takes to make a sword, Copilot simply replies, “Come on, you have the best sticks for the sword handle, but you seem to be missing the curtains for the blade of the sword. You can use wood, stone, iron, gold, or diamond. ”

So keep in mind that the video ends quite abruptly, but my first thought after watching it was: what about the Netherite sword?Netherite was added to Minecraft in the Nether update in 2020, which without delay allowed you to create armor and equipment from it. , so it’s not very encouraging that Copilot can’t be used as a possible curtain for a sword, despite being around for 4 years.

It’s also a great use of Copilot, given that Minecraft already has a built-in search tool that happens to work better than this AI version. After hitting a crafting table and using it, you have the option to open a recipe book, which shows you all the other furniture, blocks, and equipment you can craft. If you don’t have the right resources for anything, it will have a red border around the item. To locate what you need, all you have to do is click on the desired block or tool, and then it will show you the recipe and commands on how to build it on the boxes on the 3×3 crafting table. It’s fast, efficient, and anything I’ve used over and over again to help me. I make hard-to-understand pieces without any problem.

Now, this tool is probably accessible in some ways, especially if it absorbs more audible data than visual data, but I still can’t see this as another use of AI that no one has asked for. Some players agree with this sentiment.

“The AI in the game to be informed or even play is a bit weird,” one player replied to the video shared on Twitter. “This can be convenient when a user is lost or has no idea why they’re playing. “”Others have just pointed out that AI is rarely well known for its accuracy: We recently saw how Google’s AI can wreak havoc after it started recommending a slew of bad concepts to users, such as drinking (“light-colored”) urine to help clear kidney stones.

It will be appealing to see what else Microsoft’s Copilot has up its sleeve, especially in the realm of gaming, but for now, I’ll stick to my craft tabletop cookbook if I ever get stuck, as this has been my test and true for a long time. more than a decade.

According to Google, those erroneous search effects were just the result of the AI doing its job: “Before those screenshots went viral, they barely asked Google this question. “
