Report from Redmond, Wash.

Anyone who has known a third-degree scientific elegance that there are 3 main states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases.

Microsoft now says it has created a new state of matter in its quest to create a hard machine, called a quantum computer, that can speed up the progression of everything from batteries to drugs to synthetic intelligence.

On Wednesday, Microsoft scientists said they had built what is known as a “topological qubit” in this new phase of physical existence, which can be exploited to solve mathematical, clinical and technological problems.

With the development, Microsoft is raising the stakes on what is expected to be the next big tech competition, beyond today’s race in synthetic intelligence. Scientists have been chasing the dream of a quantum PC, a device that can take advantage of the incredibly difficult habit of SUBATOMIC RESUS OR VERY BLEED-FREE PETROS, since the 1980s.

The push heated up in December when Google unveiled an experimental quantum PC that required just five minutes to a calculation that maximum superpcs couldn’t at 10 septhillons, more than the age of the known universe.

Microsoft’s quantum generation can omit the strategies that are evolving in Google. As a component of its research, the company has built several internal topological qubits, a new type of PC chip that combines the forces of semiconductors that force classic PCs with superconductors that are used to build a quantum PC.
