Microsoft Makes Deeper Integration of Windows 11 and Android with New User Interface for Sharing and OCR

Microsoft is releasing two separate updates for Windows, one of which allows you to share files and photos using the “My Phone” button in a section called “Share Nearby” in the Windows Sharing user interface. The second update brings OCR to the phone link. application, which allows you to copy texts from photos stored in your phone’s gallery directly to the PC.

Windows Share is a wonderful way to share files by creating a percentage link or by sharing them via email, apps, or directly with people. However, Microsoft is experimenting with a layout replacement in the Share menu.

You can now use the My Phone option in the Share window to send a record to your phone. Previously, you had to click on the Phone Link app option in the Share window to submit the record. My phone is now exposed by a separate action. called “Share Nearby. “

This is one of the company’s efforts to inspire the use of the Phone Link app.

The user interface is confusing as it also features an option to allow nearby sharing while the My Phone option is on the left-hand side. Users may click the button thinking they want to turn on Nearby Sharing first to use the My Phone option. However, this is not the case.

To submit the record, click on the My Phone option. A new window will open informing you that the record exchange is complete. The user interface of the sharing window is also different.

Microsoft researcher PhantomOcean3 also has this feature in Windows 11 previews. To get this new sharing window UI, you need to upgrade to build 22635. 3646.

Windows Latest didn’t find the experience practical because the previous option worked just as well. Linking my phone in Nearby Sharing doesn’t make sense because two features are separate.

We also have more app suggestions, like Instagram, in the Share window.   Previously, Microsoft added a QR code option to the Share window.

Often, you want to share the percentage of the online page URL from your PC to your phone. However, sharing the link via email or some other app adds some other step. You can now create a QR code of the online page URL in Windows Share.

Just scan the QR code on your phone to open it on your cell phone. This is an undeniable but effective method of URL sharing.

If you’re Google Chrome, you can send URLs directly to any cell phone with the same email account.

Microsoft is toying with the concept of an OCR feature to scan text from your phone’s photos.

Windows Latest also detected the new OCR feature called “Text” when previewing images in the Phone Link app.

When you click on the icon, the symbol is scanned for text and you are shown some features (or components of it), copied along with your language.

In our tests, the feature identified English text in photos well, but struggled with other languages where it only highlights numbers.

Copilot’s context menu gave the impression of being automatic when we copied the text from Microsoft Phone Link.

We tested this new feature in the 1. 24051. 91. 0 edition of the Photos app in the Windows beta.

Phone Link, the first app to get OCR functionality: Snipping Tool gained a similar “Text Actions” feature last year to extract text from screenshots.
