CULVER CITY (CBSLA) – Microsoft Corp. is reportedly in talks to get U.S. operations from the TikTok application.
According to Bloomberg, the agreement “would give the software company a popular social network and alleviate the US government’s tension over the Chinese owner of the video sharing app.”
Bloomberg reported that on Friday, President Trump told reporters: “We’re in TikTok. We’d probably be banning TikTok. We are for many opportunities for TikTok.”
Earlier this month, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the U.S. is “considering” banning TikTok and other Chinese social media apps for national security reasons.
Your comments come at a time when India has banned the app and Australia is.
Pompeo said he proposes to download the app unless he “needs his personal data to be in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.”
In a CBS News, a spokesman refuted Pompeo’s claims, saying, “TikTok is led by an American CEO, along with a lot of key workers and executives in the security, safety, products and public policy spaces here in the United States. a safe and secure application for our users. We never provide user information to the Chinese government, nor would we do so if asked.
TikTok is owned by ByteDance, the Beijing-based generation company, while the company’s headquarters in the U.S. It is located in Culver City.
Since its launch in 2016, the app has been downloaded more than a billion times worldwide.
