Microsoft for Developers: Those are our biggest, open source projects

Microsoft, the leadership of Satya Nadella, CEO, has said a lot and has done a lot to get rid of its symbol as a Linux out parity and open source software communities.

With a Linux core for Windows 10, GitHub, a new Android Surface Duo and the ad cloud as its main source of revenue, Microsoft is a very different company than it had 30 years ago when it feared open source software would yield. high-level assets and income.

Today, it has a number of open source project developments, adding its popular cross-platform code editor Visual Studio Code (VS Code), ArrayNET Core, the successful JavaScript TypeScript programming language, and the new open source team for Windows developers like PowerToys. and Windows Terminal.

Microsoft has now introduced an, of course based on open source technologies, to show how it adopts open source to “provide options, generation, and network to our customers.”

According to the company, more than 35,000 company engineers use GitHub Enterprise Cloud to host official Microsoft open source projects, samples, and documentation.

The site also highlights the one Engineering System (1ES) team’s influence on Microsoft’s open source program. 1ES, a team of about two hundred people, targets Microsoft’s engineering processes and then brings those teams and processes to customers, such as the Git Virtual File System (GVFS).

Jeff Wilcox, a software engineer at Microsoft’s Office of Open Source Programs, announced the new site. He points out that it is “built through the open source mapping Ruthrough Jekyll (which also feeds GitHub pages)”.

Wilcox believes that supply “offers a near real-time view of what happens in our Projects on GitHub.”

Of course, it’s hosted in the Azure cloud and uses Microsoft’s own Azure Front Door service to manage boxes on Azure Kubernetes services, such as TypeScript and Node.js.

Microsoft’s major open source projects include Windows Terminal, VS Code, ArrayNET MAUI, Windows Calculator, TypeScript, Cascadia Code Font, Windows Winget Package Manager, PowerShell, and the Linux kernel source code used in the Windows subsystem for Linux 2.

“Microsoft engineers choose projects they are passionate about. Only workers who contribute to open source projects can participate in the election process,” says Microsoft.

Last week, Google showed its contributions to open source software, revealing that some 12,500 Google workers contribute to public code repositories.

In 2019, Google workers created more than 570,000 problems, opened more than 150,000 pull requests, and created more than 36,000 insertion times on GitHub.
