Microsoft Edge abandons rounded corner design for tabs

The Microsoft Edge browser progression cycle introduces new features. Some survive, while others have a short lifespan. Microsoft added rounded tabs in Edge last year, but will be removing them soon.

Microsoft Watcher Venkat spotted this update in Edge in July and the flag has now been updated to verify that the rounded tabs are disappearing.

The #edge-visual-rejuv-rounded-tabs flag has a new description: “This feature will be discontinued soon. However, when we check a solid edition of Edge, edition 127, the rounded tabs feature is not active by default. The same is true with Microsoft Edge edition 128, which is now implemented in the solid branch.

Microsoft has added rounded tabs for a while, but they’re not the default layout. The existing tab layout is Chrome, with tabs rounded on two sides and the back merging into the tab.

Unlike the default layout, the rounded tab layout makes each tab visual and easy to distinguish. There’s an experimental setting that lets you allow full rounded corners in the tab bar, but it’s been available in Experiments for so long that most users don’t mind.

Then a flag with rounded corners in Edge that applies the same design to many browser elements. If you disable the #edge-rounded-containers flag, Edge loses the rounded effect.

Microsoft is in the process of removing the experimental flag and plans to remove it to get the full optional rounded corners feature.

If you find the rounded design appealing, you can force Edge to use it.

Most of Edge’s new features will be AI-focused. This maximum setting will use Copilot to complete the task faster.

Windows Latest has covered many features like Copilot in Screenshot Tool, AI Theme Builder, Crypto Wallet Section, Tips, etc.

However, performance-enhancing settings such as the RAM limiter and battery-saving features such as Windows 11’s built-in power saver are also planned.

In some places, you can use a 15GB VPN powered through Cloudflare on Microsoft Edge for free, which encrypts traffic and protects your IP.
