According to a new report, Microsoft and Activision are creating a new team within Blizzard that will create “AA” games on existing Blizzard properties. A report claims that this new team is primarily made up of developers from developer Candy Crush King.
The Windows Central report states that it’s conceivable that some of the AA studio’s titles are mobile games, which makes sense if it’s mostly made up of King developers. This is also partly due to the fact that Microsoft is reportedly intending to launch its Xbox mobile store for iOS and Android. While some games may be designed for mobile devices, this may not be the case for everyone, according to the report.
Sources told the site that Microsoft will reduce prices and explore building games with smaller groups that exist within a larger organization.
An “AA” game, as described in the article, would be a game with a smaller budget and created through a smaller team for “AAA” titles. Another advantage of creating low-budget games with smaller groups is that you can reduce risk. of “bureaucratic overhead” that can exist within larger organizations, the report says.
This new AA studio would exist alongside the larger Xbox creating games with bigger budgets.
On the other hand, the report mentions how Halo’s developer, 343 Industries, has undergone an update with the aim of a “more streamlined single-team organization. “Previously, the Halo studio had a “siloed multi-computer format” that created communication issues, according to the report.
