Microsoft and LinkedIn: The 2024 Work Trend Index on the State of AI at Work

New data shows that most workers are experimenting with AI and upskilling. Now, the task of each and every leader is to channel that experimentation into business impact.

 

REDMOND, Wash. , May 8, 2024. On Wednesday, Microsoft Corp. and LinkedIn released the 2024 Work Trend Index, a joint report on the state of AI at work titled “AI at Work is Here. Now comes the hardest part. The study, based on a survey of another 31,000 people in 31 countries and hiring trends on LinkedIn, billions of Microsoft 365 productivity signals, and studies with Fortune 500 customers, shows how, in just one year, AI is influencing the way other people paint, lead, and rent around the world Microsoft also announced new features in Copilot for Microsoft 365, and LinkedIn introduced more than 50 free learning courses for LinkedIn Premium subscribers, designed to help professionals of all levels hone their AI skills.

We know: 2024 is the year that AI in the office becomes a reality. The use of generative AI at work has nearly doubled in the last six months. LinkedIn is seeing a significant increase in the number of professionals adding AI skills to their profiles, with most executives saying they wouldn’t rent without AI skills. But while many leaders are concerned about their company’s lack of AI vision and their designers are bringing their own AI teams to work, leaders have arrived at the most difficult component of any technology disruption. : moving from experimentation to tangible business impact.

“AI is democratizing the experience in the workforce,” said Satya Nadella, president and CEO of Microsoft. “Our most recent research highlights the opportunity for each and every organization to apply this generation to decision-making, collaboration, and ultimately business outcomes. “

The report highlights three things all leaders and practitioners want to know about the effect of AI on work and the job market over the next year:

“AI is redefining paintings, and it’s clear that we want new textbooks,” said Ryan Roslansky, chief executive of LinkedIn. “It’s leaders who prioritize agility over stability and invest in internal skills progression that will give their organization a competitive edge and create more effective, engaged, and equitable teams. “

Microsoft is also announcing Copilot inventions for Microsoft 365 to help users use AI.
