Mattress Mack is back. Jim McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture and a major sports player, made two separate bets Friday that the Astros would win the World Series, totaling $4 million. With odds, the bets would give McIngvale $42 million if the Astros won the championship.
As he has done since online sports betting was legalized in Louisiana, McIngvale crossed the state line to position his bets: a $3 million bet on 10 vs. 1 with the Caesars Sportsbook app, and another $1 million bet on 12 against 1. 1 odds through the WynnBET app. Caesars’ $30 million payout would be the biggest profit ever made at a legal bookmaker.
Both sites have reduced the chances of the Astros, who have won 12 of their last thirteen games and lately have the second-best record in baseball at 23-12, 800 shy of winning it all.
McIngvale makes multi-million dollar bets on sports betting to protect itself from its in-store promotions that offer consumers their money if they spend a certain amount of money and a designated team wins a championship. He doubled that promotion with the Astros this season.

These types of bets are new to McIngvale, who won about $15 million when Kansas won the NCAA tournament last month.
That ended a bad run by McIngvale, who lost a $4. 5 million bet when he had the Bengals to beat the Rams in the Super Bowl. He also had plenty of cash from the Patriots and Titans to get through and win the Super Bowl, but either was eliminated in January. He also bet $2. 7 million on Alabama to beat Georgia in the national school football championship game.
