MANISTEE – If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a photography studio in Manistee can be comparable to a library.
Alissa Saylor presented her studio, at 457 River St. in December, where the award-winning photographer focuses on lifestyle, family, maternity and newborn photography.
“I always look for inspiration in life’s most mundane moments and am drawn to capture the natural beauty I see in genuine relationships; turn it into art you can feel,” reads the part of his website, alissasaylorphotography. com.
Many of her paintings highlight maternal good looks and Saylor says motherhood encourages her.
“I’m turning to mothers,” Saylor said.
Capturing those moments is for Saylor, but so is enjoying having your picture taken.
“I need to capture all those things, but I also need mothers to feel special and cared for when they come here, because I know that motherhood, especially early motherhood, can be very difficult,” she said. she testified.
Saylor says the part of her technique for photography came from a similar special experience, which led her to become a professional photographer.
“When I was in top school and I was doing my senior photos, we had someone from Western Michigan and he gave me total delight with (with) little pampering,” she said. declared. ” I know how special it was that it went beyond that. “
Talking to the photographer helped Saylor get started in photography.
“He invested in me. . . telling myself I could go on like this and he gave me all that advice on how to get started and I enjoyed it. “
After pursuing another career in cosmetology, Saylor says he had a very different experience, which brought back his interest in photography.
“I graduated, got married, went to cosmetology school and after we got married, my delight with our wedding photographer was a bit disappointing,” she said. “I don’t forget to think, ‘I literally need to do this,’ and I need to give other people what they needed. “
From there, Saylor says he sought photographers to observe, took categories and had “a lot of trial and error. “
“I did a lot of wedding photography, a little bit of family, and then when I grew up and founded my family, my interests started to be replaced and I started to perceive what my hobby was and where I fit into photography. “
This, he says, worked with developing families.
In 2013, Saylor won first place in the birth photography category at Lemonade and Lenses, a contest of foreign symbols.
Saylor’s studio in Manistee is a first for the photographer, and she says her experience in the city has been “very, very good. “
“This is the first year I have a studio and it’s been one of my dreams from the beginning. “
With its studio, Saylor says, it can offer visitors “a complete experience,” with a variety of amenities.
“I have what I call the ‘design salon’ and I have a makeup artist. . . and a hairdresser who works here,” she said.
Saylor said it’s running to offer those additional services, so its consumers “don’t have to. “
These come with things like snacks and drinks, a flexible walk-in closet, and a children’s room where they can play when photographed.
“There’s a TV there because newborn sessions tend to be very long and dads need all that, so it’s great to have a little TV where they can relax and have a coffee. “
Saylor says demand for him has been high since he arrived in Manistee despite, or perhaps because of, the pandemic.
“I’ve been very busy the last two years, and I don’t know if I’m very busy because of the pandemic (and) other people were bored and loved their families more and were looking for photos,” she said. It’s all been so crazy, I still don’t know what’s normal. “
For Saylor, the opportunity to photograph these clients and their families is “an honor. “
“It’s an honor for me to be able to tell stories, to be able to see other people in front of my camera and see how they’re together,” she said. “Then (I try) to translate that into anything I talk to them later, because I carry the pictures I have of my family and the farther away they are, the more I love them. “
