Madison Cawthorn attacked by Instagram on World War II website

ASHEVILLE – Madison Cawthorn, the 24-year-old Republican candidate in the 11th Congressional District, recently criticized for a 2017 Instagram post on Eagle’s Nest, one of Adolph Hitler’s former homes.

Democrat Moe Davis, the nominee at the 11th, released the symbol, but with an abbreviated legend.

In the 2017 publication, Cawthorn wrote: “The holiday home of the Fuhrer. Seeing that Eagles Nest has been on my wish list for a while, I wasn’t disappointed. It’s listening to so much laughter and a percentage of such a smart moment with my brother when only 79 years ago an ideal evil with laughter and good times with his countrymen.

Davis, however, stopped the punchline at the end of the first sentence. “Hitler’s holiday retreat is on my wish list,” he said of the message.

“It can be awkward to pose for photographs in places where the darkest occasions of the Third Reich took place. However, the preservation of these sites also serves as a reminder of ancient atrocities,” the article says.

“When our Easy Company infantrymen were photographed smoking, drinking and smiling at Eagle’s Nest in 1945, they were obviously celebrating the Allied triumph over one of humanity’s greatest evils. They did not celebrate evil; were celebrating their victory over evil, ” wrote Cawthorn. “When I visited Eagle’s Nest, it was the story I had in mind. It was a surreal delight for his joy in a position in which the Nazi regime had planned indescribable acts of evil.
