Apple plans to start rolling out generative AI generation to the iPhone and iPad by the end of 2024 at the earliest, according to Jeff Pu, an analyst who covers Apple’s origin chain for Hong Kong-based investment firm Haitong International Securities.
In a study note published Wednesday, Pu said its source chain checks recommend that Apple will most likely build a few hundred AI servers in 2023, and many more next year. He believes Apple will offer a combination of cloud-based AI and what’s called “edge AI,” which involves more data processing on the device. He added that patience will be needed with the launch of Apple’s generative AI, as the company considers how to use and manage private data in a way that aligns with its commitment to visitor privacy.
