Lilbits: Another Linux Computer Update, Rockchip Processor, Pixel Nine Leak

Google’s Pixel 9 series smartphones aren’t expected to launch until this fall, but details about the next-gen flagships started leaking earlier this year with a series of photographs purportedly showing the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro.

But according to a new report, the photos showed the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. Reportedly, Google intends to launch three models this year, with the entry-level Pixel 9 having a 6-inch display and dual cameras, while the Pixel 9 Pro has a 6. 2-inch display and three cameras and the Pixel 9 Pro has a 6. 5-inch display.

Here’s a look at the latest tech news on the web.

Google has announced plans to launch the Pixel nine, nine Pro, and nine Pro XL models this year. The design of the latter has already leaked, but here’s a first look (supposedly) at the entry-level Pixel nine: a 6-inch phone with two three-inch rear cameras.

Android 15 will prevent users from installing apps designed for Android 6 or earlier. This move aims to increase security, as the malware targets older APIs that lack newer security features, such as requesting permission to access sensitive data.

Writing for Android Police, Mishaal Rahman points out that users still CAN download older apps, but they want to connect their phone to a PC and use Google’s adb team to do so, raising the bar for installing apps targeting edition 22 or lower SDK.

Rockchip’s new RK3582 processor is a less expensive option than the RK3588S, but it has fewer Cortex-A76 cores, no GPU, and a less rugged NPU.

The newest System76 Oryx Pro Linux can be pre-ordered for $1,899 and up. It has a 16-inch FHD 165Hz display, a Core i9-14900HX processor. Thunderbolt 4, 2. 5GbE LAN and graphics up to RTX 4070, 96GB RAM, 8TB storage.

FYI, BeagleBoard is releasing the BeagleY-AI SBC that is likely to be compatible with instances designed for the RPi5. There’s no 3. 5mm A/V port, though.

What do you think of the Pixel?

There’s not much that has such a small screen length and a traditional ROM, however, between Google’s traditional silicon and the binary blobs provided in the kernel, it’s hard to be sure that telemetry isn’t being sent to them anyway. And of course, it’s unclear if it actually has traditional ROM until six months after launch.

^ And that’s very much the main reason other people buy them, using a Google ROM.
