There has been much discussion about voter suppression before the 2020 presidential election between outgoing President Donald Trump (right) and Democratic challenger, former Vice President Joe Biden.
The challenge here is mail voting (or mail voting, as used to be called). The existing management opposes this in a general way, raising imaginable electoral fraud.
As things stand, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James continues to sink into politics. That now includes the three-time NBA champion who joins the MLB Los Angeles Dodgers for those voting in California in November.
“Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James’s voting rights organization has partnered with the Los Angeles Dodgers to make Dodger Stadium a polling place for the November election, marking the first time a major league team has presented its services as a polling station.” ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Thursday afternoon.
The crusade will be in coordination with More Than a Vote, an organization that Mr. James co-founded this year. For five days before the November 3 election, the registered electorate will be able to park loose at Dodger Stadium and vote. This increase in participation in the strong democratic state, which is most likely for Mr Biden.
The only question here is why James will not expand those electoral efforts in his local Ohio, a true battlefield in an election that turns out to lean in Biden’s favor. It’s no secret that the NBA’s biggest superstar isn’t befriending the current occupant of the White House.
In any case, this is the first time a major league team has used it to participate in voting efforts. Others will probably stay here soon.
All of this comes with the NBA in the middle of its season that resumes at Walt Disney World in Orlando. Needless to say, the Association has been at the forefront of world politics because of actors and groups that continue to protest racial inequality in the national anthem.
It will be attractive to see how those stars, including James, will play a bigger role in the election in less than 3 months and this has a lot of impact.
