In partnership with When We All Vote and RISE, the Sacramento Kings announced the relaunch of Rally the Vote, a coalition of 20 members of the NBA, NFL, MLB, WNBA, MLS and NWSL to take unregistered voters to the polls.
The nonpartisan coalition the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Sky, Chicago White Sox, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers and Fever, Los Angeles Football Club, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, New York Giants, Phoenix Mercury, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Storm, Washington Wizards and Mystics and Washington Spirit.
“There’s no better way to be heard than to vote and that’s because we all make our component to lowering barriers at the ballot box,” said Sacramento Kings owner and president Vivek Ranadive. “The concept of ‘one person, one voice’ is one of the reasons I fell in love with this country as a teenager. Whether you agree or disagree with your elected officials, voting gives us the opportunity to make our voices heard.
In the Kings, sports groups have an exclusive duty to use our platforms for positive change, and we are delighted to win the vote of those amazing groups. “
Rally the Vote was originally founded in 2018 to encourage voting construction in mid-term elections. Only 53% of the registered electorate voted in the 2018 election. There are at least 88 eligible Americans who have not registered.
When We All Vote seeks to encourage the participation of young electorates and minorities by helping them register to vote and providing them with data on how to vote. RISE is a non-profit organization “that educates and empowers the sports network to eliminate racial discrimination, protect social justice and race relations.” RISE has partnered with several primary sports groups in the United States.
The NBA, WNA, MLS, NWSL and MLB have greater civilian engagement in their restart initiatives. The Kings are one of many NBA groups that are making plans to allow their arenas to be used for voter registration and voting in November. The Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks are among the groups that also open their arenas.
In addition, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James announced the launch of his organization More Than a Vote, which aims to raise voter awareness, enrollment and suppression, especially in the black community.
Each coalition member is inspired to give workers paid leave on Election Day to inspire voting. The Bulls, Kings, Timberwolves and Lynx, and Wizards and Mystics announced Election Day as a paid holiday.
