DETROIT — After depriving the public of valuable autumn culture last year, Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang will be back on public television this holiday season.
Apple TV was the home of the Peanuts gang last year, and with the partnership came the absence of “It’s the Big Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on popular TV packages across the country.
The beloved Halloween special will still be available on Apple’s streaming platform, but it will also air on PBS this month.
Following outrage over removing the Halloween special from the public airwaves, Apple TV allowed Peanuts’ Thanksgiving and Christmas specials to air on PBS These shows, like the Halloween special, were planned as exclusives to the streaming site in 2020.
The Halloween special has been a staple of fall television programming for decades. “It’s the Big Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” created on CBS in 1966, then moved to ABC in 2001. It’s more than part of a century of broadcasting Peanuts’ inherent birthday party sweet humor and eccentricity that has seduced young people and adults alike.
