iOS 18 Open Beta 5 and above is now available ahead of September launch

Apple just released iOS 18 Public Beta five for iPhone, as well as Beta five for iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and more. Earlier today, beta releases from other major developers were suspended. These new updates are available to all users who are part of Apple’s public beta program. Existing beta users will see the versions in the Software Update segment of settings.

Public Beta five focuses heavily on bug fixes and functionality improvements. Apple is striving to prepare iOS 18 and its similar versions for its big public release.

Earlier today, Mark Gurman reported that after today’s betas, iOS 18 is “final,” aside from the features that can be obtained exclusively on the iPhone 16.

This most likely means that iOS 18 is fully featured after today’s betas.

However, it is difficult to identify many changes, even in existing versions. For example, they work better than before. But the notable feature updates are minimal compared to the previous beta.

The public release of iOS 18 is only one month away. Apple is expected to hold its big iPhone 16 event in early September, in all likelihood on September 10, and that’s when the company will reveal the iOS 18 release date.

With this public release a few weeks away, today’s iOS 18 beta five is one of the last betas we can expect.

Beta five arrives shortly after last week’s release of Beta four. This version brought some changes, adding the following:

According to Gurman, it’s unlikely we’ll see any more changes with future betas until September. The goal now is for iOS 18 to become more robust before its debut in September, so bug fixes are Apple’s priority over new or replaced features.
