According to the planmaking commission’s agenda, Nathan Whittaker, a client and agent, is interested in purchasing dawson Ridge Golf Course to rezone indexed parcels from R-2, residential area, to MH, Mobile Home Park neighborhood, according to the agenda.
The nine-hole golf course, which closed last season, is for sale by the owner, according to a company statement at 591 Von Hof Blvd.
Whittaker, 39, of Ocala, Florida, earlier this year built cellular housing parks on Yale Avenue and Walker Avenue in Madison Township, and Armstrong Avenue in Mansfield. They were renamed Colonial Hills, Maple Hills and Woodland Hills, respectively.
Dawson Ridge neighbor Katie Burgess, who lives on Von Hof Boulevard, said Thursday she’s not happy the golf course can accommodate a cell home park.
“We know that there are also Hopewell Indian mounds in the woods. So we’re a little worried that this will be destroyed or protected,” he said.
Burgess said there were many children, animals that could lose their homes and migratory birds in this area. He also became involved in trafficking.
She said one of the neighbors had a petition in Change. org.
As of Friday, the petition had 270 rezoning signatures.
Burgess her husband has lived here for 15 years and has lived there for seven years.
Heather Stimpson, the national director of the home park, said Thursday that the home park will be “exceptionally beautiful” and all “new. “
She said Whittaker plans to put soccer fields at the back of the property, protect the ponds and create a park to walk around and through the cell home.
“I am very happy with this property. It’s not just a renovation, but it will be a new 5-star cell home park with the logo,” he said.
“Not only would this generate value, but it would also make assets useful and lend affordable housing to other people in a neighborhood. We have asset managers on site and we check the background of all tenants,” Simpson said.
