Inauguration of the Roma and Sinti Holocaust Memorial in Lety

On Tuesday, a Holocaust memorial for Roma and Sinti was unveiled at the site of a former concentration camp in Lety, South Bohemia. More than 1,300 Roma passed through the camp between 1942 and 1943 and more than 300 died, most of them women. and children. More than 500 detainees were sent to death camps.

The memorial is a place of remembrance and a guest center with a permanent exhibition that presents eyewitness testimonies in audio-visual form.

The site was originally used as a pig farm, and it took about three decades for post-communist governments to purchase the assets and erect a worthy monument in its place.
