“Anything is possible. ” This is the main takeaway from Nvidia’s latest GPU leak that targets a unique 900W GPU SKU for its upcoming Ada Lovelace graphics cards. It would be a next-generation AD102 chip complete with grease glued to a PCB with two 16-pin PCIe force connectors and, so called in the company, a metric amount of reminiscence attributed to it.
In fact, there is some other AD102 SKU complete with 900W TGP, 48G 24Gbps GDDR6X, 2*16 pins and top frequency. But no one knows if it will be a genuine product. Because the AD102’s check board has more than two 16-pin connectors. , so anything is possible. April 27, 2022
If it turns out to be an RTX 4090 Ti client, or similar, then I think we can honestly say that the GPU industry has lost its mind. I have a hard time justifying the strength of my gaming PC versus what I’m doing with the planet, and that’s with a card that accounts for almost a third of this future beast’s TGP.
It brought to light through the well-known Twitter fugitive, @kopite7kimi, who spewed rumors/leaks/whatever you want to call them of the RTX 40 series, at an increasing rate as next-generation GPUs begin to enter the testing stage.
Despite the suggestion that this monster graphics card is on its way, it’s worth noting that no one you’ve talked to knows if it will translate into a launched product. They also note that the original AD102 verification card comes with more than two 16-pin PCIe force connectors, so Nvidia can legitimately check a card that absorbs even more force.
Surely, there is no option of 1800 W floating TGP, huh, Jen-Hsun?
But why would Nvidia play with such a thirsty card design in the first place?Rumors already suggest that the most sensible card, potentially the RTX 4090, can shoot up to 600W when it comes to the overall graphical strength metric (TGP). Already a life force almost offensively, it will be presented as a map for creators and not for gaming PC.
An edition with superior clocks, 48GB of GDDR6X memory at 24Gbps and the full AD102 GPU could easily be a credit card for a future RTX 4090 Ti, but it could also represent the return of the Titan card for the Lovelace card generation, or even a new Quadro AD6000, or similar.
It may also be a matter for Nvidia engineers to see how far they can power the architecture in case they want some extra functionality so nvidia can keep all the claims of the faster cards of this new generation. Reports imply that AMD’s competing RDNA 3 cards will be a real advancement in functionality over existing Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs.
If the mid-range edition is going to beat the RX 6900 XT in the labs, then the high-end Navi 31 GPU may also be a monster in itself. It would possibly be a bit of a stretch to expect a GPU for multi-chip gaming this year, however, the new Radeon cards will still give Nvidia plenty of competition.
Perhaps this 900W card is proof that Nvidia is testing how far it can go to stay at its best and make sense. All I can say is: please don’t let our long-running PC games come with a compromised GPU power supply.
