IBM has introduced its newest processor chip for knowledge centers that it says can handle its predecessor’s workload 3 times.
IBM’s newest Power10 processor chip will be manufactured through Samsung Electronics and is the first chip to be announced in the first one built in the South Korean company’s seven nanometer (nm) production process.
The chip used to force knowledge centers will be available for purchase at the time of next year and will be 3 times stronger than its predecessor in spaces of strength efficiency, workload capacity and container density.
Highlighting the chip’s synthetic intelligence functions, IBM said the Power10 would be up to 20 times faster in inference workload calculations than before. This will allow corporations to use AI models more temporarily and deploy them on the ground. The company also promised that the chip will allow cybersecurity operations in knowledge centers as cyberattacks evolve at an immediate pace.
IBM said it added new hardware-enhanced container isolation and coverage features in The Power10 firmware. If a container commits, the chip is designed to prevent other boxes on the same virtual appliance from being affected by the same intrusion.
“Enterprise-grade hybrid clouds require a physically powerful onsite and offsite architecture that includes co-optimized hardware and software. With IBM Power10, we designed the first processor for the enterprise hybrid cloud, providing the functionality and security consumers expect from IBM,” said Stephen Leonard, IBM’s CEO of cognitive systems.
“With our stated purpose of making Red Hat OpenShift the default selection for hybrid cloud, IBM Power10 is delivering hardware-based capability and security innovations to the IT infrastructure.”
IBM’s production partner, Samsung, announced earlier this year that it wants to focus on chip production in the face of demanding situations in other spaces in its business. The company said there was a strong demand for PCs, servers and memory chips for the transition to remote paints and the need for online entertainment, such as streaming and gaming.
