HP Dev One Laptop with Pop!_OS Linux Coming Soon for $1099

Most HP computers come with Windows, however, from time to time the company has tried its luck with Linux by providing models with Ubuntu or Red Hat Enterprise Linux. HP’s next Linux is a little different.

The upcoming HP Dev One is 14-inch with an AMD Ryzen processor that will come with Pop!_OS pre-installed.

Pop!_Os is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution with a traditional user interface and feature set designed to make multitasking easier, among other things.

What’s attractive here is that if Pop!_OS is a flexible, open-source operating formula that can be downloaded and installed on many other PCs, it’s developed through the Linux System76 corporate computer. Until a few years ago, System76 shipped Ubuntu on all its computers, but now consumers can choose between Ubuntu or Pop!_OS.

As far as I know, HP is the first company, besides System76, to Pop!_OS as the default operating formula for a laptop.

In case the call is rarely very clear, HP is positioning the HP Dev One as a laptop for developers. But it can be a good choice for any Linux laptop.

At $1099, its value is competitive compared to System76’s own computers. And the specs seem pretty decent. It will have a Full HD display, 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory, 1TB of PCIe NVMe M. 2 storage, and an AMD Ryzen 7 Pro processor (though HP doesn’t say which generation the chip will be from, so it’s not transparent whether we’re talking about a Ryzen 7 5000 or 6000 series processor.

While HP hasn’t revealed many other main points yet, a look at the symbol on the HP Dev One online page indicates that the computer will have upward-facing stereo speakers, a pointer device in the middle of the keyboard in addition to a touchpad. , and a webcam and two microphones on the screen. The keyboard will also be designed for Linux, with a Super key than a Windows key.

System76 CEO Carl Richell explains that HP Dev One is the result of a partnership between his company and HP that lasted “months,” and HP was trained to provide technical support for issues related to Pop!_OS. an online page for HP Dev One, a “real announcement comes later”, so we deserve to have more data on specifications and availability at some point.

A Linux computer without WinTel Inside?I like it! The specs for this one are around $200 less expensive than a similar System76 Galago Pro with an Intel processor and similar specs. It’s also less expensive than Dell’s XPS thirteen Ubuntu Developer Edition. I like the fact that it comes with Pop_OS!than Ubuntu, as it gives me the option of not being forced to use Ubuntu’s questionable Snap packages. Lately I’m looking for a new computer and I’m definitely contemplating one of them.

DDR4 3200, so it will be a variant of Cezanne (or Renoir).

I wish they had used Devuan instead, just so that the PC and its operational formula can pronounce themselves in the same way. And also because I want Linux to simply move away from the formula, in case it starts to be hostile to the user.

Is the memory scalable?16 GB does not seem to be enough for the progression work

Expandable to 64 GB
