If there’s one thing server managers still want to deal with, it’s verifying and applying updates. When these updates are ignored, your servers become vulnerable, which can lead to attacks and knowledge theft. To this end, you deserve to take the time to update regularly.
In the genuine world, we know that this is a task that can be ignored, especially when you are constantly dealing with the disorders that arise. If this sounds like you, you may need to allow automatic security updates for your Ubuntu servers.
Let me show you how.
Connect to your Ubuntu server and install the update package support with the command:
Once this is done, install the update-notifier-common package for restarts with the command:
Then edit the 50 unattended updates log with the command:
By default, security updates are enabled, so you don’t have to worry about this section. However, you may need to turn on automatic restarts.
Navigate to this segment and you’ll know if automatic restarts are supported without delay or at an express time. To allow automatic restarts, remove the first few characters from the Unattended Update line :: Automatic “false” restart; and become a genuine life.
You can then do the same for the unattended update line :: Automatic “false” restart and configure it at the time you need to perform the automatic restart (so that this does not occur during productivity hours).
And that’s all it takes to enable automatic security updates for Ubuntu Server. Even if you don’t enable automatic restarts, at least be sure to turn on the auto-update feature, then factor the cat/var/run/reboot-required command to see if you need to restart. If this is the case, you will see Restart of the required formula in the list. Restart your device and take advantage of those updates.
