Horizon Zero Dawn on PC has code that suggests it’s a debug build, a new analysis on Reddit claims.
The author of the post, a self-professed programmer, said they took to the game’s dump files after repeated crashes.
“Let’s say that the result is not very… promising,” they began. “What this piece of code means is that the computer is trying to write the value in the right to the memory address in the left, the problem is, the memory specified doesn’t exist. The program is trying to directly access address 0, this will ALWAYS crash the game, and this is also a big NO.”
The programmer continues on to report that they found 166 lines with that instruction, removing them and then finding that the game “crashes every 30 minutes now, not 5.”
We’re unable to investigate as we weren’t provided Horizon Zero Dawn review code on PC.
Horizon Zero Dawn is currently available on Windows PC and PS4; we reviewed the base game here and its Frozen Wilds DLC here.
