HMA’s non-registration policy rated as low after an independent assessment of privacy factors
LONDON, August 5, 2020 / PRNewswire / – HMA VPN, the network neutrality and anti-censorship company, won a note that impacts the privacy of low-threat users by its no-registration policy following an independent review through cyber threats consulting company VerSprite. The assessment, which categorized the threat point on a low-to-critical scale, included research into server-side knowledge, traffic, and storage, as well as disconnecting users’ identities with knowledge that contains data about online user activity. The advent of the previous non-registration policy this year and now the third-component audit is a component of a broader HMA initiative for a privacy champion for others around the world.
VerSprite’s technical PIA covered HMA consumers for Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows, and worked from the installation procedure to the entire knowledge flow of endpoint programs in scope. VerSprite implemented a privacy-based risk style to include manual evaluation techniques to identify where privacy hazards could arise among HMA consumers. The objective of identifying, reporting and providing recommendations for any technical deficiencies similar to HMA’s non-logging policy. This technical PIA follows VerSprite’s other security penetration testing efforts on HMA VPN.
