Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) has announced that it will produce its Airlander 10 at a purpose-built factory in Carcroft Common, northern England.
HAV had said in the past that the production site would be located near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, but did not specify a location.
Located on 50 hectares near the former mining town of Adwick-le-Street, on land known to Doncaster City Council for its economic development, the plant will be able to build up to 24 Airlander 10s per year.
HAV will obtain full ownership of the land and will now begin the procedure of submitting an application for a building permit.
If granted, HAV will expand amenities for the production and certification operations of the Airlander 10.
HAV claims to have a “backlog of orders” for the Airlander 10 of more than £1 billion ($1. 2 billion), with the first aircraft set to enter service from 2028.
“Airlander 10 will reshape what’s imaginable in sustainable air travel, and Carcroft Common will supply the flagship production hub we want to see happen, creating more than 1,200 jobs and £1 billion a year in exports,” said Tom Grundy, chief executive of HAV.
“We look forward to working intensively with the chain as we launch our production program and move forward with this ordinary task. “
