Contractors hired through Cognizant, a Google Maps contractor, oppose the company’s in-person painting policies. According to Bloomberg, Google’s outside contractors don’t enjoy the same benefits as Alphabet’s full-time painters, but they still must comply with some of the same painting policies. In one case, Cognizant rejected a request for medical exemption to paint the house through a contractor who underwent 4 surgeries. Cognizant later told Bloomberg that there was a lack of communication in processing the employee’s request. This turns out to be one story among many. Last week, 120 Cognizant painters signed a petition to push remote paintings. The petition argued that running away from home is an invaluable benefit.
