The new Google Chrome ones are ready to solve the unfortunate browser’s tendency to monopolize the reminiscence of your device and drain its battery.
XDA developers have discovered the first focus on Chrome bug reporting for developers. Introduced earlier this month, the feature revolves around the arrival of a “battery saver” label.
In this label that is enabled on a given Internet page, developers will need to turn on faster battery-saving measures, such as reducing the frame rate of the page, converting the page layout, or slowing down scripts running on the page.
Like the one on the page, Chris Harrelson writes: “Websites known to have the best processor or battery prices would possibly ask the AU to optimize the processor or battery, even if the user did not request it.
“Most trendy operating systems also have battery-saving features that are activated when the battery is low or the user needs to save battery power. Ideally, Internet sites can meet these parameters. The sites may wish to indicate to the AU which methods paints the most productive for the site in those situations.”
The power-saving measure of the moment discussed through XDA developers (originally reported via Chrome Story) is a new “LITTLE-core only” indicator for the Android edition of Chrome. This requires the app to run only on the “LITTLE” cores of a processor, which means that devices with ARM-designed chipsets, such as SoC Snapdragon, will run Chrome more efficiently.
However, those features are still being tested. Android users will want to be patient before retrieving some of the reminiscence and power consumption that Chrome apps are so well known to consume.
Other Chrome updates are also being performed, adding a front cache feature in Chrome 86 for Android. This will allow users to move faster through the browser. And Google is also testing the limitation of JavaScript timers in the background, which is another effort for battery life.
